Surprised by Joy

Join ReSource in partnership with Scargill in June 2027 for a week long retreat on the theme of joy.

The pressures of life and of serving in the church can squeeze joy out of us.

So, joy becomes an infrequent visitor in our lives, and we get used to living with its absence, while also missing the depth of joy that we have occasionally stumbled upon and long for more of, even in the tough times. In this retreat we will look at what the Bible says about joy, what Jesus taught about joy and at joy as the Spirit’s fruit. We will pray to be re-joyed!

We will search the scriptures together and welcome the Holy Spirit in times of collective worship and prayer. There will also be space in the programme to spend time alone with God, to walk, to talk together, to join in the regular rhythm of the Scargill community’s prayer and to enjoy mid-summer in the incomparable surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales.

There will also be the opportunity to spend time with the retreat leaders in personal conversation should you wish and to receive ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit at various points in the programme.

David prayed in Psalm 51 “restore to me the joy of your salvation” or as The Message paraphrases verse 12 “bring me back from grey exile, put a fresh wind in my sails!”. If this is your prayer too, we look forward to you joining us on the retreat.
