The Revd Canon Alan Bing

I became a committed Christian at University, and the presence and gifts of the Holy Spirit were integral to my faith and experience from the start. After a year as a teacher in Kenya, I worked in industry for ten years, during which time I married Wendy and we had the first of our three daughters.

I was ordained in my mid-thirties and helped to plant a church in an estate on the edge of Barnstaple during my curacy. From there, we moved to Ulverston in Cumbria, where God called us to lead a traditional parish church into becoming more of an inter-generational church family with a mission to the town and surrounding area. Since retiring and relocating, we’ve joined our local parish church, which could be described as ‘little and ordinary’, but is also very welcoming.

Since becoming a Christian my true and guiding passion has always been to see people turn to Christ, have their lives transformed, and become active agents for the bringing in of God’s kingdom.

I enjoy leading and preaching and have experience of working in a team and planning church events, all of which I hope will be relevant for the ReSource Minister role. I have also been a supporter of ReSource for several years and feel very aligned with its vision and values. I’ve loved being part of the Charismatic History Project and am passionate about applying the lessons we have learned to the Church of today.

Otherwise, when not looking after grandchildren, you might find me by a river fishing, or walking with Wendy and our labrador amongst the Cumbrian lakes and fells.
